Up and Coming Artists - The Lo and Beholds

I was browsing CDbaby.com when I came across these guys. The site said “Recommended if you like Brand New and Manchester Orchestra” and I thought “Well that’s totally me!” so I decided to give them a shot.

I don’t have much information about them because…well, I simply couldn’t find much online but I figured I’d post this anyway because it’s only a matter of time before a lot more people start to take notice of them. The band consists of Jason Rudisill, Garrett Herzfeld, C.J. Bennett, Sprad Spradling(don’t ask - that’s literally what it says on their myspace although I believe his real name is Tyler) and Patrick Goley and they hail from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Very few bands (even some I’ve grown to love) really hit me the first time I listen to them however The Lo and Beholds hit me pretty hard. The first song I listened to was “Four Mile Scar” (which can be found on their EP titled Lo and Behold) and just wow, it’s fantastic. The instrumentals are beautiful and pretty advanced for how young these guys look. Upon further listening I realized that “Four Mile Scar” wasn’t just some kind of fluke, these guys really are that good. I don’t know if anyone else would agree with me but I’m gonna say a mix between Manchester Orchestra and earlier Bright Eyes would be these guys. The harmonies, the melody, the lyrics - all great. (I don’t know if the line “I’m sinking like a stone” in the song “Burnin’ All My Boats” is a Brand New reference but I’m going to pretend that it is and love them even more for it.) I really don’t understand how these guys aren’t any bigger in the music scene right now, really I don’t.

As of right now I don’t think the band has an official website but I know they do have a music myspace and a facebook fan page. Most of their EP can be heard on their myspace although I recommend just buying it (you can digitally purchase it on CDbaby.com or at your trusty iTunes store both for $6.00) Also, below I added a video of them performing the song “Mouths to Feed” which is one of my favorites so check it out! Oh and just trust me on buying the album, if you hate it I’ll even give you your 6 bucks back.
